On 28th May, the MASTERY project participated in the European webinar “Reskilling for the Green Transition: What Erasmus+ Projects Can Teach European Policy”, a high-level event that brought together policymakers, VET experts, researchers and project representatives to discuss the role of microcredentials, VET innovation, and skills portability in supporting Europe’s green transition.
The webinar featured contributions from three Erasmus+ initiatives working at the forefront of skills development and training innovation: MASTERY, Green Circle and BuildSkills Academy. Together, the projects explored how vocational education systems can better respond to rapidly evolving labour market needs by providing flexible, recognised and portable learning opportunities.
Representing MASTERY, Project Coordinator Ivana Russiello presented the project’s work on designing reliable and quality-assured microcredentials to support the acquisition and recognition of enabling green skills. The presentation highlighted MASTERY’s contribution to developing practical solutions that connect education and training systems with the needs of industry and the green economy.
A central theme throughout the event was the growing importance of microcredentials as tools for lifelong learning, workforce resilience and industrial competitiveness. Discussions focused on key challenges and opportunities, including quality assurance, cross-border recognition of skills, interoperability of digital credentials, and support for workers affected by the green and digital transitions.
During the webinar, MASTERY shared insights from its consultation activities related to the European Commission’s Skills Portability Initiative. Participants highlighted the need to strengthen the recognition of work-based learning and accelerate the adoption of European tools such as ESCO, Europass, and the European Qualifications Framework (EQF).
The project also showcased its achievements to date, including:
- The identification of 12 Enabling Green Skills across key economic sectors;
- The development of microcredential pathways aligned with European frameworks;
- The design of quality assurance and portability guidelines;
- The implementation of pilot activities across Europe;
- The creation of innovative methodologies to support the integration of microcredentials into national VET ecosystems.
One of the most significant outcomes of the event was the signing of a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) between MASTERY, Green Circle and BuildSkills Academy.
The agreement establishes a framework for long-term cooperation in areas such as:
- Green skills development;
- Vocational education and training innovation;
- Microcredential quality and portability;
- Upskilling and reskilling initiatives;
- European policy recommendations and stakeholder engagement.
The MoU also lays the foundation for future collaborative activities, including joint dissemination actions, communities of practice, participation in European policy discussions, and the co-design of new initiatives supporting the green transition.
The webinar demonstrated a shared commitment among European projects and stakeholders to move beyond isolated experimentation and contribute to systemic change in education, training and employment policies.
For MASTERY, this event represented an important opportunity to strengthen cooperation with like-minded initiatives and reinforce the project’s mission: supporting the development, recognition and portability of green skills through innovative and trustworthy microcredentials.
As Europe continues to invest in the green transition and the Union of Skills, MASTERY remains committed to helping learners, workers, training providers and employers access flexible pathways for acquiring the competencies needed for a more sustainable future.
